In Bahia, the automotive sector is one of the most important in the economy, with a production capacity of 250 thousand vehicles / year. The state occupies the 4th position in the Brazilian production ranking, with a participation of 8% in relation to the total, evidencing significant gains for the local economy. The state owns one of the most modern automobile factories in the world, the Ford Nordeste Industrial Complex, located in the municipality of Camaçari, which develops a production model using state-of-the-art technology and a high level of automation of production, contributing factors high standard of efficiency and quality of its operations. In addition, here is located one of the five design centers and the engine factory.

Complex has 20 system companies installed in the Ford assembly plant, employs about 7,700 people directly and generates 77,000 indirect jobs. Currently Ka and EcoSport models are manufactured.

Ford maintains in Simões Filho a parts distribution center prepared to receive, consolidate and ship material from 20 suppliers in the region. The goal is to export to the company’s factories in Venezuela, India, China, Thailand, Russia, Mexico and Vietnam (source: ANFAVEA Letter, January 2017). With it, Ford becomes the first automotive manufacturer in the Northeast to use the new export concept, where the whole process is done within a bonded area, bringing more speed, control and competitiveness to the operation.

The Ford Nordeste Industrial Complex celebrated in July 2017 the milestone of 3 million vehicles manufactured, with about 30% of this volume destined for export to South American and Mexican countries (Letter ANFAVEA, August 2017).

Also worthy of mention is the Ford Complex’s Engine Factory, which occupies an area of ​​24,500 square meters and has the capacity to produce 210,000 engines per year. Considered a global product, the new engines have an innovative engineering concept with higher performance and fuel economy. The Motors Factory shows that the state of Bahia’s automotive fleet goes beyond vehicle production, consolidating itself as a high technology development center with high production capacity.

It is worth mentioning that with the installation of the Automotive Complex in Bahia, tire manufacturers have already invested more than US $ 680 million in the state, with several competitive advantages.
The production model adopted uses state-of-the-art technology and a high level of production automation, – factors that contribute to the high standard of efficiency and quality of its operations.

The vehicles coming out of the Bahian automaker have about 95% national content, 76% genuine Bahian content and 80% Brazilian machinery and equipment. Automotive suppliers that are able to work as partners in the assembly line and the final module of the assembly plant are present in the Industrial Hub of Camaçari and Metropolitan Region.

With regard to the training of the local workforce, the State Government provides support for the selection, training and improvement through the various vocational training centers present in the state, such as Senai / Cimatec, which has specific training related to the area of development, design and manufacture of automobiles, technical courses, advanced courses in applied technology and specializations. The state also has a local infrastructure and roads suitable for access to the factories, and for the production flow through an extensive and good road network, in addition to the ports and a network in telecommunications and data.
